7/3/14–The latest update from the National Weather Service reports Hurricane Arthur is 35 miles south of the Cape Fear Region.
As of 5pm, Arthur’s maximum sustained winds remained at 90 miles per hour, still a Category 1 storm.
Forecasters still expect the storm to strengthen, possibly to a Category 2 hurricane, as it brushes North Carolina’s Outer Banks late tonight.
Officials say residents and visitors to the North Carolina coast should remain mindful of flooding, windy conditions, rip currents and possible tornadoes until Arthur clears the state.
