Berger case continued; second mental evaluation to be proceed
7/22/14–New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger will undergo a second mental evaluation before he is tried for probation violation.
That is the outcome of a court hearing today.
Berger underwent a first mental evaluation that called into question his ability to proceed with his trial.
The judge ordered the case continued to August 26th so that second evulation may happen.
AS for now, Berger is being held in the New Hanover County jail under a $300,000 bond.
He was arrested June 10th in Avery County for breaking his probation following his DWI case in New Hanover County.
So far, none of Berger’s arrests have affected his status on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners.
His colleagues ousted him from office last year, but a judge reinstated him on a technicality in procedure.
