Cell phone monitoring equipment scrutinized
6/20/14– The New Hanover County Public Defender’s Office is looking into the use of cellphone monitoring equipment by the Wilmington Police Department.
The equipment can reportedly track where cell phones are being used and which cell phones are in contact with each other.
Some are concerned of possible violations of privacy afforded to all by the Fourth Amendment.
The DA’s office is said to be working with federal officials to make sure the use of such equipment is within the law.
