A federal jury has cleared two Brunswick County deputies in a case involving alleged excessive force.
The deputies, James Sheehan and Brian Carlisle, shot George Cooper six times at a mobile home in Leland in 2oo7.
Law enforcement was called to the home by a neighbor complaining about loud arguing.
The deputies say Cooper came out of the home firing at them—and yesterday—a jury in Raleigh agreed.
The judge overseeing the case said given the jury’s decision, the deputies were justified in the use of deadly force, and he dismissed the case against them.
