Former deputy guilty of assault
3/27/14- A former New Hanover County deputy will be on probation and serve community service after being found guilty of simple assault.
Reed Roberts used his stun gun in an off-duty confrontation with a utility worker at his Pender County home.
The dispute with the Duke Energy employee stemmed from Roberts’ belief that the worker had damaged his property.
Roberts was fired shortly after the incident.
He will never be able to work in law enforcement again.
