Multiple law enforcement agencies became involved after a man allegedly sped through a DWI checkpoint in Wilmington, and then once finally stopped, allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle.
Officers were conducting the checkpoint at 15th and Market Streets about 1:30 Friday morning when investigators say 42 year-old Johnnie Lamont Williams came speeding through.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says Williams was eventually stopped at Castle Hayne Road and 23rd Streets, but several officers had to assist, authorities say, when Williams refused to leave the car.
Williams is charged with speeding to elude arrest, reckless driving and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
He's being held in the New Hanover County jail on a $50,000 secured bond.
