The boyfriend of a Rocky Point woman killed in a July 4th boating accident on the Cape Fear River now faces charges in her death.
A New Hanover County grand jury indicted 44-year-old Larry Scott Duncan on charges of involuntary manslaughter, impaired boating and reckless operation of a boat or vessel.
Authorities say Duncan was operating one of the boats involved in a head-on collision that killed 37-year-old Jennifer Faircloth.
Duncan was also injured in the crash and has spent several weeks in the hospital.
According to prosecutors, Duncan had a blood alcohol level of 0.9 when his blood was drawn about two hours after the accident. The state's legal limit is 0.8.
Officials say evidence suggests Duncan may have been abusing prescription medications as well.
Duncan was released from the New Hanover County jail on a $25,000 bond.
