Expect a heavy presence from law enforcement as you celebrate the July Fourth holiday.
Triple A of the Carolinas estimates some 989,000 people will hit the roads--and the Highway Patrol says it will be on the lookout for folks driving while impaired and for those speeding and driving aggressively.
Experts say the number of people traveling for the 4th this year will dip slightly, mainly because the holiday falls on a Thursday, resulting in a shortened travel period.
On the water--officers with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will have extra patrols as well.
Law enforcement will give special focus to recreational boating areas.
