Revolution production to leave Wilmington 5-13

2:21 p.m. Monday

The Port City is losing a major Hollywood production.
The TV show Revolution will not film its second season in Wilmington.
Crew members received notice that producers are moving to Texas.
The decision was said to be based on the need for more variety in location shoots.

NC Crossover Week 5-13

2:20 p.m. Monday

It's crossover week at the state Legislature.
Measures that don't pass either the House or Senate by the end of this week will likely be bumped for consideration this year.
The deadline is meant to keep sessions of the General Assembly from dragging on too long.

Wilmington Police investigate fatal crash 5-9

May 9

Investigators are looking for the cause of a fatal crash in Wilmington.
It happened Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of North College Road.
Police say a car driven by 59-year-old Hubert Simpson struck a utility pole.
Simpson died.
Authorities are trying to determine if a medical condition caused the accident.

Brunswick cocaine sentencing 5-9

May 9

A Brunswick County judge sentenced a man to at least 3 years in prison for trafficking cocaine.
Tristan McNeil of Myrtle Beach was arrested during a traffic checkpoint last year.
Authorities say McNeil had about 400 doses of cocaine in his car.

Coast Guard rescues man near Kitty Hawk 5-9

May 9

The Coast Guard yesterday rescued a 72-year-old man about 70-miles off the coast of Kitty Hawk.
Trevor Wilson of Great Britain activated an emergency beacon from his sailboat.
Wilson told rescuers he lost consciousness for a while and thought he had fallen and hit his head.

Leland Police investigate shooting 5-7

May 7

Leland Police are investigating a shooting that landed one teenager in the hospital and another in jail.
It happened Sunday night behind a residence on old Fayetteville Road.
So far--investigators have not released the names of those involved or commented on a motive.

Arrests in Wilmington shootings 5-7

May 7

Three Wilmington men were arrested over the weekend for two separate shootings in Wilmington.
The Violent Fugitive Task Force of the U-S Marshall Service made the arrests.
Two men were charged with opening fire on a group of people on a porch on Greendale Drive.
One man was charged with firing birdshot on a group on Clay Street.

Lejeune Marines killed in Afghanistan 5-7

May 7

Two Camp Lejeune Maries have died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
39-year-old Staff Sergeant Eric Christian and 23-year-old Corporal David Sonka died in combat Saturday in Afghanistan.

Man charged with stabbing father to death 5-3

May 3

A Wilmington man is being held without bond--charged with stabbing his father to death.
Police were called to the family home on Night Hawk Drive about 6:45 last night.
There---they found 52-year-old Christopher Roberts with stab wounds.
He was later pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
20-year-old Corey Roberts was arrested at the scene.
Investigators have not commented on a motive.

Four charged in Wilmington home invasion 5-3

May 3

Four people are charged in a home invasion that left one man with serious gunshot wounds.
It happened back in January at a home on Crimson Court, in the Azalea Trace neighborhood.
Wilmington Police spent months investigating--and now four young men are in custody.

Facing charges are 21-year-old Antwan David, 21-year-old Kadeem Thomas, 17-year-old Darius Jones and 17-year-old Tahjil Johnson-Webb.

Each is charged with first degree attempted murder.  All are being held in the New Hanover County jail.


Investigators say the robbery was random and the victim did not provoke his attackers.

Iron Man 3 opens nationwide 5-3

May 3

It's the day some have been anticipating for years.
Iron Man 3 opens in theaters today nationwide.
The film was primarily shot in Wilmington and is North Carolina's biggest production to date.
And it is already breaking records overseas--according to the Hollywood Reporter, Iron Man 3 scored the biggest opening day ever in China, with $21.5 million.

The trade magazine says the Marvel Studios film has so far earned $307.7 million, surpassing the first Iron Man film, as well as Captain America and Thor.

Iron Man 3 starts Roberty Downey Jr., Gwyenth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.

Boyfriend sentenced in fatal Pender crash 5-2

May 2

A Pender County man will spend at least 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to a crash that killed his girlfriend and sent a pregnant woman and her two children to the hospital.
Authorities say 27-year-old Lance Powers was arguing with his girlfriend when he grabbed her steering wheel and caused the crash on N-C Highway 53 last October.
Jennie Marie Moore died at the scene.
Powers pled guilty to second degree murder.

May Day rally arrests 5-2

May 2

Five people arrested last night during a May Day rally at the Capitol Police have bonded out of jail.
Some wanted their voices to be heard on Immigration reform others on labor rights and budget cuts.
General Assembly Police Chief Jeff Weaver says protestors pushed officers.
That student was charged with assaulting a government official.

NC tax and tag changes 5-2

May 2

North Carolina drivers who have vehicle registration renewals due in September will see the first combined bill.
The Department of Motor Vehicles originally planned to debut the new combined notice for property tax and tags for July renewals.
The program will still take effect on July 1st.
All North Carolina vehicle owners will be part of the new notification system by mid 2014.
