Russellborough ruins: Remains of early NC governor’s mansion burned in the Revolutionary War

Today, the Russellborough ruins provide a footprint of the once grand Royal Governors' mansion, built in 1751, decades before the founding of the United States.

There are very few remaining ruins in North Carolina from before the Revolutionary War. However, towards the Carolina coast, you can find the ruins of a mansion that housed two royal governors - including Governor Tryon himself.
